Booking with Markus and Kaija

You may request a consult with either Markus or Kaija through this page or commission us for a collaborative project!

Thank you so much for being interested in the work that we do! We are excited to create not only a unique tattoo for you, but an unforgettable experience. Most of our clientele have to travel long distances to me, so we have done our best to streamline the booking process.

The Process:

We know that this is a lot of writing, but we want to make sure that all of our clients go into this process with all of the information that they need.

Please read through this info page to ensure that we both have all the information that we need to proceed with the consultation process. At the bottom of this page there is a consultation form to be filled out with all your information and from there, we will reply to you within a week or so to book your consultation.

With the nature of the work that we do it is so important that we are a good fit, artistically and on a personal level so the consultation process is an important one. We want you to feel just as comfortable as us so that everyone does their best work.

We always reply to every request, although if we feel like your project is something that either of us is unable to take on at the time or outside of our expertise, we will do our best to refer you to another excellent tattooer who would be a good fit for you.

We do online and in-person consultations Monday through Saturday, and if you are local to us, they can be done in person at our home studio in Maple Bay. Consultations are usually around an hour where we can discuss your idea, go over our policies and approach and we can get to know each other. After discussing your concept, costs, and timeline, we will ask for a non-refundable deposit to book your appointments. 72 hours notice is required to reschedule a single appointment and 5 days notice to reschedule appointment of 2 or more days as these spots are harder to fill. If insufficient notice is give, a new deposit will have to be left to keep your future appointments. Your deposit will come off of your last appointment. I take a minimum of $500 CND or USD as a deposit for all tattoos, but are also welcome to pre-pay full sessions if that is more convenient.

FEB 2026 pricing:

Kaija: I currently charge an hourly rate of $250 CND or $210 USD, and half hour rate for stenciling and drawing-on. My maximum day rate is $1200 CND and $1000 USD. These currencies are often changing so i adjust these numbers every 6 months to allow for the most fair exchange. You may choose which currency you would like to pay in.

Markus: My base hourly rate is $250 per hour, but I will discuss my hourly rate during your consultation, as I accept many different currencies based on which country you are from to account for the exchange rate and to minimize your costs to change money into Canadian dollars. I am happy to accept other currencies as we often travel and it saves us having to convert our own currency.

Getting tattooed by us: Large-scale work and travelling from out of town

If you are thinking about travelling to Canada to get tattooed at our home studio, please use our contact form or our Instagram accounts with any questions you might have. During and after your consultation, we will help you to build your travel plan from our local airports, ferries and float planes to get you to where we work. We can also provide shuttle service from certain terminals for a transportation fee and we recommend letting us help with finding you the perfect accommodations for your stay. We also have a partnership with a family run airbnb at $125 per night with the most breathtaking view and garden in the Cowichan Valley in a self-enclosed apartment with a kitchen and private entrance.

We encourage our out of town clients to book multiple day sessions, as it is the most efficient way to get the most tattooing done in a short time and economize on your travel expenses.

We often start a multiple day session with a drawing/planning day where we will draw your tattoo directly on.

Markus does not draw his tattoos ahead of time because each one is designed specifically for your body to ensure the perfect fit and flow. This ensures that you are part of the design process at every stage and any changes to the design can be done together.

Kaija may draw your tattoo ahead of time and may be able to provide a rough concept to you, she prefers doing the final illustration a day or two before your tattoo so that it is fresh in her mind for your appointment.

We then take a tracing of your tattoo and do a digital line-work drawing to stencil onto you the following day, or if we are able to develop your drawing enough, we may tattoo you the first day, depending on the size of your tattoo. This process is fluid, And may change based on the size complexity and placement of your project.

Depending on your travel situation, we can offer up to 4 day sessions. We know that getting tattooed for multiple days can be a scary prospect but through experience, we find that most clients have no problem getting tattooed two days in a row and you may be surprised at how much easier the second day turns out to be. We have both developed very professional techniques to make sure that we get the most out of each one of our sessions and that you are able to show up as best as you can as a client.

In our home studio, we want you to have everything that you need to feel at home too. When you’re getting tattooed, you will be able to watch any movie or television show from any streaming service, or listen to your favourite podcast or the music of your choice through our stereo system. We provide comfy blankets, cosy robes, a heated floor and slippers to ensure maximum physical comfort and you will have your own private client bathroom with all the amenities. For those travelling, we make sure that you have everything that you may have forgotten including toothbrushes and toothpaste, deodorants, soaps, feminine hygiene products and shower, bath and clean towels.

We provide coffee, tea, beverages, and snacks as well as any delicious baked goods that Kaija has whipped up in the kitchen for that week, and are able to arrange meals if dining-out or your accommodations do not allow for it.

All of this is to give you an overview of what to expect, but we are happy to give you a more detailed description of what to expect from each of your sessions once we have developed your idea more fully during your consultation.

If you have any questions outside of a tattoo request or to book for guest spot or convention spot, you may email me at markus@lenhard.bio and kaijaheitland@gmail.com.

We so look-forward to having you visit with us and creating a once-in-a lifetime tattoo experience.
